July Cruiseletter

Hello, Angels, thanks for stopping here to check out the first of many Bike Angels Community newsletters! We’ve been diligently planning updates to the Bike Angels Community as we cruise through the summer riding season, and we’re excited to begin ramping things up here in the BAC.

As part of these efforts, we’re launching Cruisletter, a newsletter-style article that I’ll post each month as an update and a touch base for our community of Angels here in the BAC. (you’re reading it right now!)

Destination Unknown 🌆🚴

The BAC is getting a bit of a refresh, and we’ve got some tools and tricks in our pocket to make the community even more helpful and engaging. We’re overhauling the current rankings and badges structure to create an experience that’s more on-par with what Angels expect, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

In the coming months, you’ll see more posts from the Bike Angels Team to get the conversation going and share updates and details about changes in the community and with Bike Angels or Citi Bike. Keep your eyes on the road ahead!

We initially launched the BAC softly by invitation only, but truthfully, the BAC is live and publicly available to all Citi Bike Bike Angels. Tell your friends, and do even more good by suggesting they visit the community with their questions. The entire community of Angels and the Bike Angels Team are available at your fingertips!

Free Day Passes for Summer Streets on August 6th!

The festival returns for its 14th year to reclaim the streets of New York with the coverage area extended by nearly two miles! Summer Streets will take over nearly eight miles in Manhattan on three Saturdays in August filling them with art, performances, and demonstrations. With more than 120 planned events, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy. The event is free to the public, and there are rest areas throughout the grounds to combat the summer weather.

If your loved one isn’t a member, no sweat! Citi Bike is offering free Day Passes on August 6th. Use the code SUMMER22 in the Citi Bike app to receive unlimited 30-minute rides on a classic Citi Bike for 24 hours.

Angel Tune Up đź‘Ľđź’Ş

A good cool-down stretch can do wonders to prevent or relieve post-cycling tension and tenderness. While many cyclists incorporate warm-up and cool-down stretches when riding, there are benefits from sustaining stretching during cool-down exercises.  Holding a stretch or posture for one to five minutes can deepen the benefits. The gentle, targeted tension and stress on the muscles increase blood flow to the area creating a restorative effect.

A few reminders and guidelines—like don’t forget to breathe! Also, listen to your body. There’s no finish line–time yourself holding the stretch for as long as you comfortably can. Achieving the pose and sustaining a few good breaths while doing so is perfect when beginning with sustained stretching. The poses should feel comfortable to achieve and hold while breathing.

With those guidelines top of mind, try these two stretches after your next ride:

Hip Hero

  1. Kneel and sit backward with your bottom on your heels
  2. Lean forward to rest your forehead on the floor
  3. Outstretch your arms in front of you; palms on the floor
  4. Hold–Inhale and exhale, slowly and deeply

Shoulder Saver

  1. Lie down on your belly; legs side by side
  2. Place your palms on the ground in front of you aligned with your shoulders
  3. Gently stretch your torso upHold–Inhale and exhale, slowly and deeply

    Resourceful Rider

Hi Jess! Love what you are doing with this space. 🙂

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but…Do you have any insight in riders losing the ability to receive 3x rewards? If so, is it permanent? I seem to have lost mine, but had it two days ago. This was a great feature and I’m so sad to not have it anymore! (I’ve heard it is happening to others as well.) Thanks if you can help!
