Biketober is coming! 

Biketober is bringing bike-centric events to the city all month long blending education and fun for all ages. 

 

NYSDOT is hosting free helmet fittings and resuming their ‘Bike the Block’ events at their Open Street locations. The helmet fitting and giveaway is a first-come first-serve event that will take place on October 2 from noon - 3pm at East 118th Street & Park Avenue.

 

New Yorkers can learn to ride a bike, join a guided ride, talk to an NYC DOT planner, or jam to a local artist at one of seven Bike the Block events in October. See the full list of events here

 

Angel Tune Up 👼💪

Nutritious diet options are crucial for maximizing the health wins cycling has to offer. Refueling after cycling doesn’t have to be tricky or time-consuming. Incorporate this healthy recovery smoothie into your cool down routine. 

 

Boosted Banana Smoothie

  • 1-2 bananas, frozen or room temp
  • 1 Tbsp. nut butter
  • 1c. leafy greens, like kale or spinach
  • ½ c. fresh fruit of your choice
  • 1 Tbsp. oatmeal
  • ice, optional

 

Combine the ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth. Ice is optional when using cold or frozen ingredients. Add a pinch of salt or any other yummy toppings. Serve in a drinking glass or bowl. 

 

Bananas provide complex carbs and potassium to fortify depleted energy stores. Nut butter adds a rich flavor with a punch of protein and healthy fats to help the body repair muscles. Oatmeal helps replenish glycogen and adds a bit of texture. Add fresh fruit and leafy greens to 

up the hydration and calcium levels and maximize this beneficial blend.
