Map inaccurate, ending streaks

I've had a couple of streaks ended this week when I should have continued them. I've noticed it's because your map is often inaccurate and I'd like an explanation of what's going on.

I just took a ride and saved screenshots before and after. This particular ride didn't end a streak, but it should have taken me from 2x to 3x and yet it did not. You can see in the first image, it's 12:00. I waited until noon to see if the map changed, and it did not. So I'm going from S 4th & Roebling to S 2nd & Driggs, which the map indicates will give me 2 points and push me to 3x.

I complete the ride and I get the pop up notification: Ride Completed. No two points, no 3x streak.

I then take another screenshot of the map and it now says S 2nd & Driggs is neutral. I specifically waited until the points changed at noon before taking this ride, and yet your map didn't reflect the actual points available.

I've been doing this for two years and have never had this issue before last week. I've now lost two streaks due to this mapping error. The program is mostly a waste of time now so I rarely do it and only manage about 100 points a month when I used to do over 1k, but I still do use it to extend my membership and get points for an occasional e-bike. What's going on with the point values in the app and when will this be fixed?

  • Yup! That is how it should work, where the map auto-refreshes! Looks like this is a confirmed bug and our software engineers are working on it!

Oh yeah, I've seen this so much on the Baywheels Android app that I always close and reopen the app whenever it's close to the 15-minute mark, so I avoid these types of things.

I agree with mgai433 that the map wouldn’t seem to refresh automatically. I’d usually close the app and reopen every 15 minutes. It was happening for much of early July but the last week or so has been mostly back to normal.

I've been doing this for two years and the map has always refreshed automatically for me. I've watched it, waited until the quarter hour and saw the point values adjust. And I've never once restarted the app yet have never had an issue until last week. I agree that it's a good idea to do that NOW, but that is not how the app is designed and it's not how it has been functioning the entire time I've been doing this.

I think the problem is that the map doesn’t refresh and update automatically at those times. I’ve noticed that recently, you have to manually refresh to make sure you’re seeing the latest accurate points on the map. I’ve been toggling the parking button as a way to force refresh the map and sometimes it will even revert to the old values when I toggle back. it’s also more evident when the map is zoomed out point values update partially

    Heya Conrad!

Hmm looks like a map bug issue may be happening here!

I have gone ahead and immediately messaged some team members internally to get more info (I remember seeing a similar report about this yesterday) and will let you know if anything comes of it!
