Well how old are you now? I am actually in the same boat...but I keep earning points in hopes that they will reconsider the purchase options.
When they first started awarding Amazon gift cards you could actually purchase gift cards on Amazon for other retailers, rather than buying crappy products from some unknown Amazon vendor. During the quarantine I purchase a gift card for Best Buy with which I was able to purchase an elliptical machine (including shipping). So...I decided to start earning points to purchase a new computer. But the quarantine led to a delay in the release of the upgraded computers, and by the time the new products were available, Amazon no longer allowed people to purchase gift cards with Amazon gift cards. I was also planning to buy products from The Container Store and Home Depot so I could purchase products locally. Half the things I have purchased from Amazon are junk and far too difficult to repackage and send back. And half the food items are close to the expiration dates and cannot be returned. You cannot even use Amazon gift cards at Whole Foods...which seems completely ridiculous. Needless to say, Citibike certainly does not comprehend the profiles of those of us who choose to invest our time moving bikes. A lot of the angels are retirees, who are merely trying to make ends meet and need motivation to get out and exercise. Others are students and teachers, who need a flexible way to do the same. To assume that people are merely participating out of the goodness of their hearts to help people who can easily afford to pay for their memberships...or take a cab...is ridiculous. If I wanted to donate my time, I could use my skills to tutor additional students for free or at a discounted rate. Guess I will consider that this fall. It is far less dangerous. Also...maybe it is worth becoming a pet care provider through Rover. Less flexible I suppose, but probably a better investment of our time.
