Station replaced at Grand Army Plaza & Plaza St West (Union)

Today they replaced the station on plaza street West and union, right by the arch. It used to be a 30 dock station, now it's a 36 dock station. Does anyone know why? It doesn't matter, but it feels like a big effort to just gain 6 docks and slightly rearrange their placement?

  • Thanks Louis  for asking (and for being a Bike Angel)! I'm Katherine -- I manage operations for Citi Bike and help make sure bikes are where they need to be for our riders.

This is a big year for Citi Bike expansion, with tons of new docks and stations being added throughout the city. We've already added over 150 new stations since January, maintaining our position as one of the world's largest bikeshare systems!

While six docks may not seem like much, small additions like this to our stations have a huge impact on making the system more reliable and bikes more accessible to our riders. One of our focus projects for the year is infill -- adding more density to the existing service area with highest demand -- we'll be adding thousands of new docks this year to existing sites like this one.

As an Angel, I'm sure you know rebalancing ain't easy. Our teams will rebalance over 45,000 bikes a month during peak season so we are always looking for areas to grow and improve the availability of our bikes.

Having bikes in the right place at the right time is a challenge and we are elated to see the impact from you and other Bike Angels. Thank you for hustling to make bikes available for your fellow New Yorkers!

    Hey Louis
We are always expanding by adding new stations and docks. For this station, the additional docks will make a big difference!
