A community for all Bike Angels
In 2021, we launched this community with less than 100 Bike Angels from NYC who ride with Citi Bike to understand how Angels would interact here and what we can learn from the community. Today, the community has grown to more than 1900 members, and we have Angels from outside NYC represented in the community. We’re pumped to share that we’re expanding the community to create a space where Bike Angels from cities across the U.S. can connect and find answers. Did you know there are about 50,000 Angels in NYC, but that's only 71% of all Angels? What’s changing? We’re inviting about 14,000 new Bike Angels to join in the conversation here. One thing to note: Angels from different cities have different experiences with their bikeshare system and the Bike Angels program. For instance, Bike Angels in Chicago can earn points for moving scooters, too! And, rewards offered differ by city—check out the links at the bottom of our homepage. When chatting, keep in mind that you may be replying to someone with a slightly different experience with their bikeshare system or the game. How can I help build the community? As founding members of the Bike Angels Community, you all have set the pace for how we’ll communicate here. New members may need some help along the way, and of course, we’ll make them feel welcome. If you spot duplicate threads or irrelevant replies, kindly steer members in the right direction to help keep the community productive and organized.271Views6likes0Commentsride history does not remember where you were
In the "Ride history" of the Android Bay Wheels app, if you click into a ride to see details, then use the "back" button or motion on the phone to go back to the list of rides, the list goes back to the top of the list rather than go back to where you were. This makes it very difficult when searching for a specific ride in your history. Can this be made to remember where you were? Thanks!10Views2likes0Commentsdocked bike but then was not docked?
I had a terrible experience today (3/14) with BayWheels and the Android app: I docked a bike at a station, the green light came on, and I heard the success sound. I did not check the app to confirm the ride had ended since everything seemed fine. I was walking to another station to take another bike, and I noticed on the app that the previous ride had not ended yet! so I puzzled over that and went back to the station, and the bike was docked and locked in the station. As I was going to engage support via the app, under ending a ride, I noticed a new button that said something like "end the ride," so I clicked it. That did end the ride, but charged me as if the ride had been going on that whole time (7 minutes) when the actual ride was only 2 minutes. And it ended my bike angles streak. When I clicked through to chat with support, they told me there was nothing they could do since they did not see any attempts to dock or end the ride, and the station was not reporting any issues. Is there any chance of getting credited for those 5 minutes? This was a terrible experience, and I guess the lesson is do not use that button that says "end ride". Instead, you should contact support.Solved114Views2likes13CommentsMaps showing Bay Wheels usage in SF
Neat article about where ppl are riding in SF https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/bay-wheels-bike-map-19972251.php "Top corridors for riders so far this year included stretches along the Embarcadero, through Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf to the Presidio and the Caltrain station to the Dogpatch neighborhood." I've been meaning to ride through Golden Gate Park one of these days; that's a nice ride.29Views2likes0CommentsPoints distributions
I live and mostly bike in Oakland, CA. many days there are few points to be had anywhere. Contrast to San Francisco where there’s a points available everywhere. This hasn’t always been the case — and I assume there is various attempts to balance the algorithm, and that overall traffic numbers drive that One suggestion which might help a little bit is that stations with 1 or fewer open docks should always get extra points for taking something away. And completely empty stations should always offer extra. A full station are no bikes mean that someone isn’t going to land their bike there or even use a bike i have had many occasions where i’ve opened up a dock only to have it immediately filled. When points were distributed differently, I might go out of my way to help out. But with just 1 point on offer, I don’t. This should be a baseline not algorithmically determined, if you trully want to incentivize people helping out.33Views2likes1CommentWaterproof seat cover - source?
Hi all! It's starting to get rainy/dewy here in the bay area. I am looking for a waterproof seat cover to keep my butt from getting wet from the seat. I once got a freebie type w/ elastic borders that fit PERFECTLY around the BayWheels bike seats, but I have since lost it and have been using heavy duty plastic bags. Those work fine but less cute. Does anyone have a good source? Alternately, anyone up for making one and putting it on etsy?? I'd be a customer!27Views2likes1CommentHow do I report bikes that have their QR codes removed?
This bike and the bike next to it have no QR code. Like, they look like they've been removed. I tapped the wrench icon, but it didn't seem to do anything. More generally, I'm just not sure how to report bike issues after docking. It seems like if I don't press the wrench icon within a minute of docking, or if I tap through the post ride feedback screens, pressing the wrench icon does nothing.Solved91Views1like5CommentsNew to the program and biking in general
Hi! I first learned to ride a bike in middle school, but I forgot how to.😅I recently got back into biking and ran some errands while doing Angels runs (got 13 points 🎉). These were some of my first independent road biking trips, and I had so much fun : )Solved37Views1like2Comments
