Bike Angels Motivation?
I just do Bike Angels to get points to pay for expensive e-bike minutes and extend membership. I dont go to much out of my way to get points. I also work so dont have much time to devote. Seems many here might be doing this for income. Seems you need to put in the time but good workout and you are your own boss. Gig economy. Curious, what's your motivation?72Views1like3CommentsCapping Citibike ebikes Charge at $2.90?
I personally prefer to take an ebike sometimes instead of the subway, especially if going somewhere far. From my experience it is the fastest and most predictable way to get from point A to B. This was also demonstrated in a NYT article on getting from Time Square to LGA. However, the biggest negative is the charge. A 20+ min ride is $5+. It would be great if the ebike fee was capped at the same rate as the subway, $2.90 as long as under a certain time frame. I understand that Lyft needs to cover their costs, but the MTA just generated $159 million in the 1st quarter of 2025 from congestion pricing. I am not sure if any of these revenues are planned to help fund Citibike, especially ebikes. If not might be a good idea to help cap the ebike fee. Thoughts?60Views1like1CommentStolen Bikes
I often see the non electric bikes locked up for extended periods outside buildings in NYC. I assume someone went to a docking station and took a bike that someone docked improperly. I guess the bike member gets hit for the lost bike charge? Is there any Bike Angel reward for reporting the bike info and location? That would be a true "Angel" helping member and CB.58Views1like3CommentsImprove the Citi Bike Map
Problem: In the Citi Bike map (in the app) it is almost impossible to tell traffic flow direction for streets when browsing the map, an arguably important piece of information when biking in NYC. Similarly, reading street names is just as hard with them only appearing if you zoom in almost all the way! The green bike lane lines cover the street arrows which indicate the direction of traffic (I've circled two arrows that are being covered). Also, only two street name labels are showing here: Suggestions: Make it easier to see the traffic flow arrows by either making the direction arrows easier to see (change color, size, etc) or allow users to toggle the green bike lane overlay on the map on and off Make it easier to see/read street names and prioritize them over places of interest Add a toggle to show/hide places of interest on the map (restaurants, hotels, stores, etc) Lastly, an argument against improving the current experience might be to user the "directions" feature which will give you a correct route but to that I say that sometimes we just want to do an ad-hoc bike ride. Secondly, bike angels (like me) would love to better see street names and traffic flow directions I don't really use the directions feature because there's no way to simply put a pin on the map or tap on a station as your start and end address; we must type in the address which is time-consuming.278Views10likes6CommentsDiscontinue Lifetime Achievement Rewards?
I joined Bike Angels when it first started. Back then my motivation was to extend my membership and get the rewards. At that time the rewards had some value, like a special metal key FOB. Was like be eligible for a metal credit card, made you feel special. Motivated me to go to a further dock with points. I just hit 3000 points and got the gloves and pin. With all do respect, these gifts are crap and have little value to me. I have no motivation or excitement to receive any future level gifts, the backpack looks like more cheap stuff. I suggest doing away with this program or make the rewards better. I would rather that you give me extra points I can use on e bikes or extensions...or something else of real value instead of Lyft money and resources wasted on this cheap merchandise. (Especially with increased tariff costs) Thanks for reading. Any other ideas/feedback?70Views1like4CommentsAlgorithm
Hello, It feels like the citi bike angels algorithm typically assigns valuations based on historical performance. For example, there is typically a portion of Bed/Stuy and Bushwick that is need of bikes and has -1 and -2 point valuations (needs dropoffs). Likewise most of Williamsburg and Greenpoint is typically a range of 0 to +3 (needs pickups). Meanwhile, there are typically a few stations spruced throughout Williamsburg and Greenpoint with less than 10-20% of bikes available. These stations are rarely if ever incentivized with a +1 or +2 (needs drop offs) even though they are in desperate need of drop offs. What are the steps being taken to incentivize people to make common sense drop offs that would Redistribute bikes to less crowded stations Reward users to make common sense detours from their typical routes and lead to spread bikes more evenly Also, what steps are being taken to increase the 2x multiplier time length? What is the benefit of providing people 24 hours to take positive rides? What about Citi Bike Angels who use the program more casually a handful of times a week for example? What is the point of disincentivizing Citi Bike riders in taking positive rides by including a rapidly expiring multiplier? For me, and many of my friends the 2x multiplier amounts to a pop-up ad than a helpful piece of information that guides my behavior. The direction to not take Negative rides serves a similar purpose and is much more effective. I understand that Lyft may want to incentivize Bike Angels to participate in the program more frequently but it seems burdensome and unrealistic with the way the vast majority of people use the program. I believe the Citi Bike program would be greatly improved by adjusting the timelines. See my reccomendation below: 2x Citi Angels timing: 72 hours to take 1 positive ride to maintain the 2x bonus, to take 3 positive rides to reach 3x positive rides 3x Citi Angels timing: 1 week to take 3 positive rides Best, Pizzafan457Solved126Views0likes6CommentsNearly empty, and empty stations should not have pickup points
Some stations, like the ones I pictured here are almost completely empty for hours! I check back every 15 mins, yet they aren't neutral (no points) or have drop off points...but they have pickup points. This makes no sense. This is clearly a systemic, repeatable issue that could be fixed with a bit code. by the time someone with authority reads this, I'm sure these stations points and state will be different, but my point is clear, these nodes consistently occur and I believe they should be addressed, it would make angeling easier. starting off we have a station with 0 bikes yet has pickup points.. I completed the City Explorer in September. Aside from the wonderful all-black picture captured from my app (which I used to print up a t-shirt), there was no recognition from Citibike or Lyft. I think it would be wise for Lyft to publicize this, as it will attract other riders to complete the task. A number of past City Explorers had newspaper articles written about them. The simplest way to do this is a leaderboard. I get that the number of stations, and the number of stations remaining, is computed from the ride history each time I click on "view profile", so it's not as easy as the bike angel leaderboard. But it shouldn't be that difficult to compute a leaderboard once per month. Hoping this or something like it gets done. I'm any case, I'll be back on the road this fall when the expansion happens.Solved46Views3likes1Comment
