Featured ContentCity Explorer I completed the City Explorer in September. Aside from the wonderful all-black picture captured from my app (which I used to print up a t-shirt), there was no recognition from Citibike or Lyft. I th...
Recent ContentBike Angels Motivation? I just do Bike Angels to get points to pay for expensive e-bike minutes and extend membership. I dont go to much out of my way to get points. I also work so dont have much time to devote. Seems many here might be doing this for income. Seems you need to put in the time but good workout and you are your own boss. Gig economy. Curious, what's your motivation? New bike angel on the block Je t'em everyone, As a hilly Washingtonian who loves to listen to really music and join the fun, I've been years praying for something like this and happy joy freely warmly joined in the ride here. Thank you so much for allowing me to participate and make things happen for our bikers and our beautiful world today. Truly believe this is one of the better routes we have for our bikers including other groups secular to capital Bikeshares in DC. As technology picks up the use of physical fobs fade but helmets don't. Ride safe, keep pushing those lanes with fineness otherwise enjoy the ride even though it's designed to have fun and many benefits. I've lost 9 lbs this past week because of it feel free to ask me how. So thank you those elder angels before me, because they're out there looking out for all of us. In gratitude and service, (former brother) Andrei P. (Dre) First second and third place rewards? I was in first place for bluebikes this month and expectedly earned $750 + $100 =$850.00. I spoke with the third place person who said she only made $300 and was expecting $350 for third place (AW708). Is only the top point getter for the month getting extra money? I thought it was top 3 received $100, $75, $50. How are people accumulating so many points?! Iβm just wondering how some angels are amassing soooo many points. Iβm in awe! I thought I was doing a lot when I hit 450 points last month but I see some are doing that in one day. How?!? also seems like a bike angels ride/meet up could be fun π Bug: after a dock upgrade, City Explorer "forgets" stations which have already been visited When a dock has been upgraded from the old design (top) to the new design (bottom), the app forgets that you've already visited this location in the City Explorer view and renders it unvisited again. It's as if the City Explorer is using some internal station id for calculating which addresses have been visited, rather than the dock name and/or location. Capping Citibike ebikes Charge at $2.90? I personally prefer to take an ebike sometimes instead of the subway, especially if going somewhere far. From my experience it is the fastest and most predictable way to get from point A to B. This was also demonstrated in a NYT article on getting from Time Square to LGA. However, the biggest negative is the charge. A 20+ min ride is $5+. It would be great if the ebike fee was capped at the same rate as the subway, $2.90 as long as under a certain time frame. I understand that Lyft needs to cover their costs, but the MTA just generated $159 million in the 1st quarter of 2025 from congestion pricing. I am not sure if any of these revenues are planned to help fund Citibike, especially ebikes. If not might be a good idea to help cap the ebike fee. Thoughts? How do I report bikes that have their QR codes removed? This bike and the bike next to it have no QR code. Like, they look like they've been removed. I tapped the wrench icon, but it didn't seem to do anything. More generally, I'm just not sure how to report bike issues after docking. It seems like if I don't press the wrench icon within a minute of docking, or if I tap through the post ride feedback screens, pressing the wrench icon does nothing. SolvedPlease remove public racks from the City Explorer In the City Explorer view for Chicago, about half of the "Divvy stations" are not actually stations at all. They're just public bike racks. You can lock an ebike here without a fee, but you can't get or leave a classic bike. They shouldn't show up in the City Explorer. In the Lyft last mile API json (https://s3.amazonaws.com/lyft-lastmile-production-iad/lbs/chi/station_information.json) these are indicated with: "rack_model": "CITY_PUBLIC_RACK" And in the GBFS station information feed (https://gbfs.divvybikes.com/gbfs/en/station_information.json) they are indicated by: "station_type": "lightweight", "has_kiosk": false In the Graph QL API (https://account.divvybikes.com/bikesharefe-gql) they're also indicated as "lightweight", but so are e-bike only stations. Fortunately the station name always seems to start with "Public Rack", so they can still be distinguished by the name prefix e.g.: { "stationId": "motivate_CHI_1806749740082741752", "stationName": "Public Rack - Milwaukee Ave & Lawrence Ave", "location": { "lat": 41.967385, "lng": -87.760169, "__typename": "Location" }, "bikesAvailable": 0, "bikeDocksAvailable": 2, "ebikesAvailable": 0, "totalBikesAvailable": 0, "isValet": false, "isOffline": false, "isLightweight": true, "siteId": "", "ebikes": [], "lastUpdatedMs": 1682970704000, "__typename": "Station" } Here is a google maps example of what one of these "stations" looks like, i.e. it's just a city rack: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jmnHeaqnbtQ32QDM9 Please remove these from the map in the bike share mobile app. They're too many, too visually noisy, and not useful. Those city racks are almost always empty, so all they do is put a whole bunch of "Zero" pins on the map and obscure the real stations, like you can see in the screenshot below - the pin near the CTA station is a "real" bike share station, but all the zero pins on S Pulaski Rd are just public racks. Stolen Bikes I often see the non electric bikes locked up for extended periods outside buildings in NYC. I assume someone went to a docking station and took a bike that someone docked improperly. I guess the bike member gets hit for the lost bike charge? Is there any Bike Angel reward for reporting the bike info and location? That would be a true "Angel" helping member and CB. Improve the Citi Bike Map Problem: In the Citi Bike map (in the app) it is almost impossible to tell traffic flow direction for streets when browsing the map, an arguably important piece of information when biking in NYC. Similarly, reading street names is just as hard with them only appearing if you zoom in almost all the way! The green bike lane lines cover the street arrows which indicate the direction of traffic (I've circled two arrows that are being covered). Also, only two street name labels are showing here: Suggestions: Make it easier to see the traffic flow arrows by either making the direction arrows easier to see (change color, size, etc) or allow users to toggle the green bike lane overlay on the map on and off Make it easier to see/read street names and prioritize them over places of interest Add a toggle to show/hide places of interest on the map (restaurants, hotels, stores, etc) Lastly, an argument against improving the current experience might be to user the "directions" feature which will give you a correct route but to that I say that sometimes we just want to do an ad-hoc bike ride. Secondly, bike angels (like me) would love to better see street names and traffic flow directions I don't really use the directions feature because there's no way to simply put a pin on the map or tap on a station as your start and end address; we must type in the address which is time-consuming.
